THE WAITING ROOM

  • From Mike Bullen, BAFTA Award-winning creator and writer of acclaimed TV series Cold Feet and North Shore, comes his debut play The Waiting Room - a sharp new comedy about family, mortality and what happens when old tensions are forced into the same four walls.

    As the Kinsey family gathers around their dying father, grief, love, resentment and long-held secrets begin bubbling to the surface. What follows is a funny, painfully familiar look at family dynamics - the things we say, the things we don’t, and the people who know exactly how to push our buttons.

    Funny, warm and wickedly observant, The Waiting Room makes its world premiere in Mona Vale this October.

  • Julian Pulvermacher plays dying family patriarch Frank Whitby. A veteran of stage and screen, Julian’s credits include Superman Returns, Wolf Creek and Rake, and on stage, Chekhov’s The Seagull.

    Raelee Hill plays Frank’s eldest child, Jan. Raelee was a regular on Water Rats, Neighbours and Farscape, and her recent movie credits include Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway and Long Road To Heaven.

    Gillian Alexy plays daughter Meg. She is best known as Tayler Geddes in McLeod’s Daughters, along with many years of US TV experience in Damages, Outsiders, and NCIS: Los Angeles.

    Chris Sadrinna plays Frank’s older son Larry. Chris featured in 198 episodes of Home and Away as Brad Armstrong, along with roles in X Men Origins: Wolverine,Underbelly, All Saints and Water Rats.

    Milan Pulvermacher plays Frank’s youngest son, Carl. His film and TV roles span Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge, Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby, Blue Murder: Killer Cop, Rake and Catching Milat.

    Patrick James plays Meg’s ex-husband, Nathan. Patrick starred as drag queen Wilma Bumhurt in The Horizon, and is the AACTA award-winning producer of Ellie & Abbie (& Ellie’s Dead Aunt) and The Rooster.

    Cassandra Magrath plays Carl’s wife, Nicole. She is best known as Miranda Gibson in Sea Change and for her lead film role in Wolf Creek. Other notable TV credits include Neighbours and Home and Away.

    Ewa Sliter vel Szreter plays Frank’s live-in carer, Magda. Ewa trained at the National Academy of Dramatic Arts in Poland and her stage roles include Waiting For Godot, Measure For Measure and The Seagull.

  • The Waiting Room is written and directed by Mike Bullen. Mike is best known as the writer of the TV series, Cold Feet, which ran for 9 series in the UK and for which he won a BAFTA award. Other TV shows he’s created include Life Begins and North Shore. The Waiting Room is his first play.

We are an independent theatre company and Not For Profit group based in Sydney’s Northern Beaches. With a wealth of creative people in the community, our vision is to tap into existing expertise and combine it with emerging talent to produce vibrant and compelling theatre.

Our debut season cast have credits spanning Hollywood movies, American and Australian TV, and Australian theatre. Our playwright and director Mike Bullen is the BAFTA award-winning writer of TV series Cold Feet which ran for 9 seasons in the UK. He is also known for writing North Shore and Life Begins.

The premiere of The Waiting Room is the inaugural production for NoBAD, coming to life at the Mona Vale Performance Space from the 21st-24th October, 2026.

In this new Australian play, we present a cast of locally-based actors with professional experience, supported by a backstage crew that’s well versed in stagecraft. As a passionate team of volunteers, we live and breathe quality independent theatre.

The dream is to establish NoBAD Theatre as an ongoing presence on the Northern Beaches, known for producing memorable plays, lasting friendships and opportunities for performers, creatives and theatre lovers alike.

Volunteer with us!

If you’re a Northern Beaches local and would like to be involved in this production (or future ones) we want to hear from you! We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to fill backstage roles in Stage Management, Set Design and Construction, Sound, Lighting, Costumes, Hair and Make Up, Props and Front of House Management. Previous experience is a plus but is not necessary. Anyone over the age of 16 is welcome to apply.
